The audit was commissioned by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), Far South Coast Region (Parks Service Division) to assess the actual and potential impacts that the existing horse riding activities, both commercial and recreational, are having on the ecology and natural resources within this section of National Park.
The audit was assessed against the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development, as espoused by the Federal government in the National Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD). The activities were also audited against relevant State and Federal environmental legislation, inlcuding the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.
