Initial Environmental Review and Development of an Environmental Management System including Green Globe Accreditation
Kosciusko Thredbo Pty. Ltd. have engaged nghenvironmental to develop and implement an Environmental Management System based on the International Certification Scheme, Green Globe. Following the development of an Initial Environmental Review (IER) examining the major components of the resort, their actual and potential environmental aspects and impacts, and the environmental legislation that impacts on Thredbo alpine Resort it was recommended that Kosciusko Thredbo Pty. Ltd. as head lessee of Thredbo Alpine Resort develop an EMS in line with the Green Globe Community Standard. In doing so, this would place the Thredbo Community at the forefront of sustainability by becoming the first ski resort to benchmark and certify their resort to a community level under Green Globe, the International Standard for Sustainable Travel and Tourism.
Green Globe is the international global benchmarking, certification and improvement system for sustainable travel and tourism and relies on a company or a community benchmarking their operations to either baseline or best practice level based on key performance areas of environmental management. Green Globe is closely aligned to ISO 14001, the international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
The Thredbo Alpine Resort is currently developing their EMS (including benchmarking data collection) and this is expected to occur over the proceeding 12 to 18 months with an anticipated implementation date of December 2007. nghenvironmental will be assisting Kosciuszko Thredbo to develop this system across the entire Thredbo Resort and to assist in the collection and benchmarking of key performance data.
Stay tuned for further EMS developments at Thredbo.
