Arid Ecology

nghenvironmental's arid ecology team is lead by Steven Sass who has has worked in arid ecosystems for many years. Steven played a key role in the biodiversity research, education and consulting team at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga for four years which had a strong arid ecology focus. Some of the projects Steven has been involved with in recent times include:

  • Playing an integral role in developing and facilitating the arid ecology remote education field work program for undergraduate ecology students at Yathong Nature Reserve in collaboration with DECC;
  • Extensive flora and fauna surveys across a variety of arid ecosystems including rocky ranges and outcrops, mallee and mulga shrublands, bimble box - red box woodlands and riverine woodlands;
  • Biodiversity assessment for a number of large projects for active mining sites and exploration leases and the Silverton Wind Farm; and
  • Studying the impacts of different fire regimes on reptile communities in the mallee shrublands of western NSW.
