Biodiversity Assessment

nghenvironmental are specialists in biodiversity assessment. Among our staff we have experts in flora, fauna and marine ecology and over 70 years of combined biodiversity assessment experience. We have the capacity to research, draft and design interpretive and educational material pitched to general and special interest levels, and we have extensive experience in the identification and description of biological values, and the assessment of conservation status and significance. To date, we have completed over 100 specific biodiversity focused projects. These include:

  • Targeted surveying and mapping of threatened flora and fauna, including:
    • updating vegetation assemblage mapping of extensive tracts of the South East Forests, Kooraban, Gulaga, Murramarang and Meroo National Parks for the NSW National Parks service (click here for a case study on biodiversity mapping in the South East Forests National Park);
    • full floristic surveys on private lands in the Eden RFA area;
    • vegetation mapping of all NSW Ski Resorts, Planning NSW; and
    • extensive fauna surveys for the Comprehensive Regional Assessment program.
  • Biodiversity impact assessments for a wide range of different development proposals across NSW.
  • Preparation of Species Impact Statements (SISs) for proposals that were considered to have the potential to significantly affect threatened species, communities or their habitat (click here for more detail about SISs).
  • Development of threatened species monitoring programs; and
  • Community based biodiversity projects.

Our surveying and wildlife identification skills are continually being upgraded. We utilise a wide range of surveying techniques and we posess a comprehensive collection of fauna surveying equipment. This includes specific equipment for targeting threatened species, such as Elliot, wire cage and pitfall traps, hair tubes, an Anabat bat detector system and harp traps, call response playback system and spotlights.

Some photos of our equipment and staff in action will be available here (coming soon).
