GIS & Mapping
nghenvironmental use sophisticated mapping software to assist in our day to day services, for a range of uses in the fields of natural resource management and environmental assessment (EA). This is carried out using powerful Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, such as ArcGis 9.2. Inputs and outputs are compatible with most other mapping and design packages, including MapInfo and CAD based software such as Autocad, ensuring fluid and easy interactions with the client.
We can provide dedicated geospatial and mapping services or simply integrate GIS outputs with other services, for example we can supply information (such as figures or layer files) based on querying complex spatial data or provide maps showing constraints within a proposed development area. We have a number of staff trained and experienced in different GIS software (including Arcview 3.2, ArcGIS 9.2, MapInfo 7) based in each office, as well as two GIS specialists (based in NSW and WA).
Key deliverables relating to GIS have included:
Vegetation mapping (often combined with ground truthing) Environmental constraints mapping (such as locations of ecological communities and threatened spp habitat, Aboriginal and archaeological artefacts, locations of existing Local and State Government records) Predictive modelling (such as bushfire hazard areas, zones of visual impact, potential threatened species habitat) Specific outputs (such as development of Asset Protection Zones (APZs) relating to vulnerability of sites to bushfire, lengths of roads within vegetation types or number of buildings within a prescribed development buffer) A variety of maps to complement professional environmental report documents
