Herpetology

nghenvironmental provide specialty herpetological assessment, research and advice for biodiversity assessment and specialist projects. This is provided by our senior ecologist, Steven Sass. who is well-known across the herpetological community. Many of his projects have resulted in publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Steven has undertaken hundreds of frog and reptile surveys which in more recent times include:

  • Providing specialist advise on threatened frog and reptile fauna for the Hume Highway Duplication project near Tarcutta and Holbrook;
  • Threatened reptile surveys and habitat assessment in collaboration with well-known herpetologist Gerry Swan for the Silverton Wind Farm project, near Broken Hill in western NSW;
  • Pink-tailed Worm-lizard (Aprasia parapulchella) and Striped Legless Lizard (Delma impar) surveys in the Monaro and Southern Highlands;
  • Frog surveys and habitat assessment at more than 100 sites in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area;
  • Turtle surveys in the Lake Cargelligo system of the Lachlan River;
  • Studying the effects of fire on reptile communities in western NSW;and
  • the impacts of habitat fragmentation on determinants of diversity for reptile populations in the Upper Billabong creek catchment in southern NSW
