Kate graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biological Ecology. Studying the evolutionary ecology of guppies (Poecilia reticulata), she wrote an Honours thesis entitled “The Effect of Variation among Males on Female Choice”. This study was part of a 5 year ARC Queen Elizabeth II research project integrating sexual selection with conservation genetics. She also completed research and experimental work for this project on the correlation between sexual selection and population biology.

Kate has an ecological background with a strong focus on fauna. She has studied vertebrate biology and taxonomy with a broad knowledge of Australian fish. Her extensive field experience includes work with marine and terrestrial wildlife including fish and small mammal surveying, invertebrate sampling and bird watching.

Kate has experience in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) mapping and analysis. She has worked on a commonwealth marine project to help establish a GIS mapping protocol for bioregions in Australian waters.

Since joining nghenvironmental, Kate has been involved in the preparation of Review of Environmental Factors, Statement of Environmental Effects, and Environmental Management Plans and undertaken a variety of field surveys and assessments.
