Raphael came to nghenvironmental from a previous position as a Research Assistant with the Marine Ecology Group at Macquarie University and the Marine Biology Laboratory at the University of Sydney. Prior to this, Raphael completed his PhD in Marine Biology and Ecology at the Universite Libre (Free University) of Brussels, in Belgium. Raphael's Thesis topic was 'Reproduction, larval development, juvenile biology and population dynamics of the gregarious ophiuroid Ophiothrix fragilis (Abildgaard, 1789) in the English Channel-North Sea region'. Raphael has expertise in sea urchin ecology, biology and aquaculture and competance in general marine biology and ecology surveying, assessment, monitoring and reporting. Other projects Raphael has been involved in include assessment of the effects of sand and gravel extraction in Belgian territorial waters; and impact assessment and biomonitoring of heavy metals and polychlorinated biphenyls associated with sediments in the North Sea macrobenthos.
